What do I need to use Sam?
You need an iPhone, iPad, or Mac that can install Sam from the App Store, plus your own OpenRouter API key. Sam does not require an account.
Where is my OpenRouter key stored?
Sam stores your OpenRouter API key in the system Keychain and uses it only for OpenRouter requests.
Does Sam run its own server?
No. Sam sends readable page text, the page URL, and generation settings from your device to OpenRouter using your key. You can also review OpenRouter's provider training opt-out settings.
Can I choose different models?
Yes. Sam lets you choose separate OpenRouter models and generation settings for summarizing and translating.
Can Sam translate webpages?
Yes. Sam can summarize or translate webpages, and you can customize the prompts to make Sam handle other reading tasks however you like.
Does Sam support URL schemes?
Yes. Use sam://summarize?url=https://example.com/ to summarize a webpage, or sam://translate?url=https://example.com/ to translate one.
Can I export my archives?
Yes. Sam can export any summary or translation as a Markdown file that you can save to Files or share with other apps.
