What do I need to use Sam?
You need an iPhone, iPad, or Mac that can install Sam from the App Store, plus access to OpenRouter or an OpenAI-compatible API endpoint. Provider accounts, API keys, and usage charges depend on the service you choose. No Sam account is required.
Where is my API key stored?
Sam stores your API key in the system Keychain on your device and uses it for requests to your configured provider. Your API key is not included in iCloud archive sync.
Does Sam run its own server?
No. Sam sends page content and generation settings directly from your device to your configured AI provider. Optional archive sync uses your iCloud account. If you use OpenRouter, you can review its provider training opt-out settings.
Can I choose different models?
Yes. Sam lets you choose separate models and generation settings for summarizing and translating, using OpenRouter or an OpenAI-compatible provider.
Can Sam translate webpages?
Yes. Sam can summarize or translate webpages, and you can customize the prompts to make Sam handle other reading tasks however you like.
Does Sam support URL schemes?
Yes. Use sam://summarize?url=https://example.com/ to summarize a webpage, or sam://translate?url=https://example.com/ to translate one.
Can I sync my history across devices?
Yes. Optional iCloud sync keeps saved results and follow-up conversations available across devices using the same iCloud account. You can turn iCloud Sync on or off in Settings.
Can I export my archives?
Yes. Export one result or a selection as Markdown files to save or share. Exports include the source URL, action, model, available usage details, and completed follow-up conversations.
